A Message from our Principal
Welcome to our St. Dominic’s Primary School Centenary Website, curated and designed to commemorate, celebrate and showcase our school and community during our Centenary year, 2025
We are excited! It’s only once in a Century that a School’s Centenary comes around and at St. Dominic’s Camberwell East, we will celebrate & honour our past, present & future during this truly momentous year!
Together in partnership with & for our community, the history and legacy of past students, families, staff and principals will be celebrated in so many ways and we want you all to be part of that.
As we celebrate 100 years of community, of faith, of connection, of learning and of excellence, may we always strive to reach higher, dream bigger and know that we are ALL a valued part of the St. Dom’s story
St. Dominic’s Primary School sits respectfully on the original lands of the Wurundjeri, a Woiwurrung clan, whose lands covered an area from Kooyongkoot (known today as Gardiners Creek), to the Yarra River and the Dandenong Ranges in the east.
We are located in the City of Boroondara, a name which comes from the Woiwurrung language. It is estimated by modern archaeologists that these indigenous clans have been in the area for at least 40,000 years before the arrival of European settlers.
The Melbourne suburb of Camberwell is 10 kilometres east of Melbourne’s CBD and was first settled by Europeans in 1837. Camberwell and Boroondara became a favoured retreat for wealthy merchants long before Melbourne expanded to outer suburbs. Rapid growth caused changes to the municipal structure; in 1902 the area was proclaimed as the Shire of Camberwell and Boroondara; 1905 saw it as the Borough of Camberwell and Boroondara; 1906 the Town of Camberwell; and 1914 as the City of Camberwell.
